REMINISCING

In summer and in early spring
Come and watch the birds with me.
Flying in from distant lands
They make their homes in High Street Ken.

Here erstwhile do they reside
Much to the local citizens' delight.
In hues that bespeak their native climes
And grabs that suit their own homelands
They prance and preen unabashedly
Blithely oblivious to the surrounding melee

Exuding health from every pore
And shining faces all a glow
Eyes so bright with the joys of life
They tread the air with steps so light

Ah! Sweet bird of youth
How swift your flight
Streaking across the sky
Like a shimmering light
Seen but for a moment
And then forever gone
Now left with memories
And hopes forlorn.
