>ACTIVITIES>World Citizenship Project

For seven of the past eight years the Brent Bahá’í community has been running a citizenship competition in primary and secondary schools in Brent. The World Citizenship Project is concerned with promotion of a vision of world citizenship that will encourage mutual cooperation for the survival of humanity. Bahá’ís believe that being a world citizen implies that people need to work together creatively to help solve the world’s problems and eradicate violence and inequalities altogether. We believe that people need to develop skills and attitudes which will enable each of us to take some responsibility to improve the situation in which we find ourselves.

This year over 500 children in Brent took part in the project by designing a poster, writing a poem or an essay on the subject “The Promise of World Peace”. There was a prize-giving ceremony on 16th April at John Kelly Girls' Technology College and prizes were be presented to the best entries by the Mayor of Brent.
